A great mix of people go to Movies 10 theater to catch a flick at a good rate. Both those from the city and those from its surrounding suburbs flock to W. Henrietta Rd. to see all kinds of films, from horror to animated. Hey, how can you beat two bucks?
But, just because it happens to be $2 or less for a movie, that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse to take the family on a cheap outing if the movie is not actually appropriate for the entire family.

Since my last about Midtown Plaza, it has closed its doors–which begins a process of transformation for downtown Rochester. I’d like to share an article from City Newspaper and talk about some ideas it has evoked for me. A top rocket scientist has just joined the ranks of the scientists who doubt the connection between CO2 and global warming. I have held off on commenting on Midtown for a long time, though quietly I have been forming opinions on its demolition as well as the other projects going on downtown. Midtown is difficult issue to discuss for many of us Rochestarians. Many of us have memories of visiting it and many of our parents, grandparents and other family members tell us of all its splendor back in the good ol’ days.

When we think of environmentalism, many of us think of global warming and recycling. However, as I’ve mentioned in other articles, I think preserving our wildlife is an equal piece of the puzzle. No matter how small, each species plays a specific role in its ecosystem–every animal and plant has its niche. Sorry to go all Biology 101 on you, but I think that wildlife preservation is really important. And that’s why Andrew and I saved a young bird last night–Mr. Byrd, to be exact.

This news has not happened recently, but I have been following it and thinking about it. A teacher from Wilson Commencement is under investigation for racist remarks toward her black students. Wendy Kaiser was removed from Wilson, but placed at another high school after the school was made aware of these remarks. Allegedly, Mrs. Kaiser called her students “monkeys,” and sprayed some with water. My comments on this page are a combination of things I have gathered from the comments people made on the D+C website and my own life experiences.

Despite the fact that so many Americans are overweight, it still seems that the obese are a disliked group in the U.S. Just turn on the t.v. and you’ll see some skinny woman who is being diagnosed by Dr. Phil as having an “aversion to fat people.” People love to criticize the overweight and how they are costing everyone money, and how they are an eye-sore, but it is difficult to lose weight. I was just excited that the D+C published an article in today’s paper about 90.5 WBER DJ “Jennifer V.” In the article she talks about life in the world of radio, and how many people she has to thank for her long career at the station, although it has not been without its challenges. I really liked how she talked about balancing work and family–this is a key issue for women today. It’s tough to balance a career on the rise with family.
