Some Political Cartoons

Political cartoons are awesome…Here are two that I really like…No three…I’m getting pretty big kick out of these. I guess I don’t get out much. I enjoy equal opportunity fun-making.

Talking Politics

A year ago, I don’t think I would have been able to discuss global politics the way I have recently become accustomed to.

“So nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face, so what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he’s not patriotic enough. He’s got a funny name. You know, he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He’s risky. That’s essentially the argument they’re making.”
These were Barack Obama’s comment’s in Union, Missouri. John McCain’s manager responded by saying that Obama “played the race card…from the bottom of the deck.” He says Obama is shameful and wrong, etc. BUT I’m …

A great mix of people go to Movies 10 theater to catch a flick at a good rate. Both those from the city and those from its surrounding suburbs flock to W. Henrietta Rd. to see all kinds of films, from horror to animated. Hey, how can you beat two bucks?
But, just because it happens to be $2 or less for a movie, that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse to take the family on a cheap outing if the movie is not actually appropriate for the entire family.
Last night, my friends and I decided to see a horror film at …

Since my last about Midtown Plaza, it has closed its doors–which begins a process of transformation for downtown Rochester. I’d like to share an article from City Newspaper and talk about some ideas it has evoked for me. I mentioned in my last post that the demise of Midtown was due, in large part, to the opening of the various suburban malls. Mary Anna Towler expands upon how those malls opening somewhat expressed a need for convenience for those living in the outer suburbs, yet at the same time, when these malls and big box shopping centers were being built, …

Another cute fat kitty.
Hi readers, I would like to take a moment to comment on a strange phenomenon–that of “fat cat.” More people have gotten to our website using search engine terms like “fat cat,” “obese cat,” “overweight kitty,” etc. than any other Google search terms. I’m glad that people are getting to the article, but I am almost positive that once they arrive at riseupRochester, they realize that my article, “The New Pariahs” has nothing to do with fat cats. I just put in that picture because I thought it would make the lighten up the tone of the …

I have held off on commenting on Midtown for a long time, though quietly I have been forming opinions on its demolition as well as the other projects going on downtown. Midtown is difficult issue to discuss for many of us Rochestarians. Many of us have memories of visiting it and many of our parents, grandparents and other family members tell us of all its splendor back in the good ol’ days.

There was McCurdy’s and Sibley’s and a Wegmans. Everyone was downtown. People dressed up and walked around near Midtown just to be seen. You could buy hats and grab …

When we think of environmentalism, many of us think of global warming and recycling. However, as I’ve mentioned in other articles, I think preserving our wildlife is an equal piece of the puzzle. No matter how small, each species plays a specific role in its ecosystem–every animal and plant has its niche. Sorry to go all Biology 101 on you, but I think that wildlife preservation is really important. And that’s why Andrew and I saved a young bird last night–Mr. Byrd, to be exact.
