High Corporate Taxes Hurt Americans

13 November 2008 3 Comments Posted by: Andrew S.

Check out this short film about high corporate taxes:

It makes sense that high taxes on corporations would hurt Americans because the cost gets passed onto the consumer in the form of higher prices on their goods. The unfortunate part, as this video points out, is that these companies may just choose to move abroad to avoid the higher taxes.

Even worse, our small businesses suffer the most because they cannot be located abroad. Your local garden center, restaurant and movie theatre have to be located near you and may be forced to shut down if taxes increase too much. As pointed out, these taxes affect entrepreneurs as well, so new businesses may never start up if they face too large of a tax.

This brings up other questions: What is a fair tax on corporate profits? How is it fair when the government profits almost as much as the corporations they tax?

Here’s a fun cartoon on the same topic:

On a more serious note, here’s former presidential candidate Mike Gravel on corporate taxes:

Here’s a clip of Obama dodging the question. Ask yourself, what’s a “windfall profits tax” anyway?

Since the tax rate has increased so much, it looks like many companies have found ways to avoid paying it. Note the shout out to ending the Fed in this clip:

How do you feel about the corporate tax rate?

I still don't understand why people can't see that businesses don't pay taxes. Their customers are the ones paying the taxes. All you have to do is follow the money. Wake up people! We would be a much more prosperous nation (if not the most prosperous) if we ELIMINATED taxes on businesses. Not to mention, much more innovative.

I always try to encourage people to imagine themselves in the place of the entrepreneurs. So you've just invented something and you want to setup a company, but you realize that your profits are going to be taxed at ridiculous rates. It will certainly affect your decision whether to pursue that invention or keep your day job. Once your company gets large enough you'll have to hire more people and pay all the taxes that go along with that too.

The power to regulate is the power to tax. The power to tax is the power to destroy. By taxing corporations and labor we reduce the amount in the marketplace.
