Gays and Lesbians for Ron Paul

To everyone in Rochester: We have a large gay and lesbian community here in Rochester, as you all know, so I thought that it would be appropriate to post the following links about Ron Paul and his positions on gays and gay marriage. Not surprisingly, many in the GBLT community love the message of liberty!

Why would gays and lesbians support Ron Paul, a Republican? It has to do with his Libertarian ideals of personal freedom. Essentially, it’s not the government’s business to be involved with marriage in the first place, so why should it care if two men or two women are getting married? I believe this is an excellent position. Why argue for ‘rights’ from the government, when they belong to us? We should be getting government out of marriage in the first place. If it is a religious ceremony, then why do we need a license. You certainly don’t need one for your First Communion! Let’s demand equal liberty instead of equal regulation!

  1. Wow! what a great idea, get rid of all government and then when there is no protection of your rights, then you can expect more tragedies like the poor young gay man that was dragged behind a truck in Wyoming.
Reality is not gender orientation neutral, laws administered by rational people can be. Irrational people require laws to keep them in check. Forethought of consequences to your choices is always prudent.

  2. Hey Hans, that ‘young man who was dragged behind a truck’ was murdered. The two men who killed him were charged with murder. They will be serving lengthy sentences behind bars! I don’t really understand what people could want more than that. Double the punishment if someone kills someone from a certain group? That’s not what I call equality Hans. BTW, where did I say to get rid of all government? I only said government should have no role in determining who can marry and who can’t. That seems fair to me.

  3. I don’t disagree with the tragedy and conviction of the above mentioned event, however caution is advised when one wishes for equality through limited government, when government & rule of law is most often the only thing that insures “equality” when reality is taken into account.

where do you suppose a Libertarian government would stop deciding which “services” it would provide? Would it stop once it got rid of an imperialistic government controlled military? Would it stop once it got rid of social and humanitarian services? would it stop once it got rid of a national transportation system? would it stop once it got rid of fire & police protection? would it stop once it got rid of the judicial system? when would it stop getting rid of government departments that are necessary for rule of law and operation of civil society? That is the question I allude to, hence the need for prudence in what one asks for, lest one gets more than one ever wished for whether it be good or bad.

  4. Well, our rail system was better before the government got involved, not worse.

We were guaranteed jury trials under the Bill of Rights, but now they are virtually a thing of the past. Very few cases go before a jury.

If the police are so great, then why didn’t we have any for many years in this country? When did they go from being Peace Officers to Law Enforcement? Why do so many stores and corporations hire private security? I thought police were enough to deter crime…
